Frequently Asked Questions
We believe everyone deserves to be treated as an individual, with their own relationships, stories, and ways of expressing care. We honor that belief by creating and donating handmade cards that help people share how they feel and stay connected to the people who matter most in their lives.
People in care communities are more than recipients of support — they’re parents, grandparents, friends, and partners with relationships that matter deeply. Having a handmade card within reach gives them the dignity and independence to express love, celebrate someone important, or simply send a note that says “I’m thinking of you.
At the same time, receiving a card matters, too. A thoughtful message can help someone feel seen, valued, and remembered. It can brighten a difficult moment, ease feelings of isolation, or offer comfort from a caregiver, staff member, or family member.
Because these moments matter, we put exceptional care into every card we create. Each design is crafted to be something people feel proud to give and grateful to receive — beautiful, intentional, and made to carry real connection.
When you donate a card, you help place a handmade card within reach of someone in Maine who can use it to connect with someone they care about.
1.) Select a card you want to donate from our Donate Cards page.
2.) To donate the card, add it to your Cart.
3.) Select Check Out and enter secure payment information.
4.) Download your charitable receipt after checkout.
5.) We handcraft the card here in Maine.
6.) The finished card is delivered to one of our nonprofit partners at no cost to them. Once it arrives, the card is placed where people in that community can choose it to share with someone important to them. Caregivers, staff, and family members can also use the cards to offer support.
7.) After the card is delivered, a photo of it will appear in the Giving Gallery where you can see the card you helped create, and the partner organization you supported.
You won’t receive the physical card. Your donation helps a handmade Wicked Good Card reach someone in Maine, giving them a meaningful way to connect with someone they love or offering a moment of care when they need it most.
While every handmade card is slightly unique, our designs are part of a collection that reflects meaningful moments. Our current categories include:
• Birthday Wishes • Encouragement
• Everyday Kindness
• Maine-themed • Pun Intended • Sympathy
• Thank You
• Well Wishes • Seasonal and Holiday Cards
Every card features a blank interior so givers can personalize the message in their own words.
From playful to comforting, each design is crafted to brighten someone’s day and foster connection across Maine.
To ensure transparency, we created a detailed rubric that assigns each card a Fair Market Value (FMV) based on its design, materials, and craftsmanship. Handmade cards are not all created equal. Some require simple cuts and a few layers while others involve intricate pieces, specialty papers, and precise assembly. The FMV helps reflect the real-world value of the finished card and is used for donor receipts and internal tracking.
Our rubric evaluates each card across six elements:
1. Complexity Measures the overall design difficulty. Cards earn 1 to 3 points based on visual detail, layering, and structural planning. Simple cards score 1 point. Moderately layered cards score 2. Detailed, visually rich cards score 3.
2. Materials Used Recognizes the quality and type of materials. Cards earn 1 to 4 points depending on whether they use standard cardstock, foil, no-shed glitter, shimmer, or a combination of specialty papers.
3. Distinct Paper Colors Used Counts how many separate colors appear in the design. Each color adds 1 point, beginning at 1 point for single-color designs and up to 7 points for designs with seven or more colors.
4. Pieces and Assembly Evaluates the number of pieces and how challenging they are to assemble. Cards score between 1 and 3 points based on whether they have minimal pieces, a moderate number, or many small layered components.
5. Precision Scores how much accuracy is required to keep the card clean and professional. Designs with forgiving alignment score 1 point. Cards with tight alignment or tiny shapes score 3.
6. Design Appeal Some handmade cards look premium even when they require fewer technical steps. This category adds 1 to 2 points to ensure the FMV reflects how the card presents visually.
Total Points
After the total points are added, the FMV is assigned:
• 5 to 9 points = $10 FMV • 10 to 14 points = $12 FMV • 15 to 17 points = $14 FMV • 18 to 20 points = $16 FMV
This rubric helps us maintain consistent valuation across all designs while honoring the time, materials, and creative skill that go into each card. It also ensures donors receive accurate FMV information for tax purposes once receipts are available.
Many of our cards have a Fair Market Value (FMV) that is higher than the $10 donation amount because they are handcrafted with premium materials and detailed layered designs.
Our board has chosen a flat $10 donation for every handmade card to keep the program accessible and sustainable for anyone who wants to support it.
For full transparency, we always disclose the FMV: it appears on each card’s product page on our website and is also included in the charitable receipt you download after checkout.
Because the card is donated (and not shipped to you), your full $10 contribution may qualify as a tax-deductible donation, as allowed by law. Please consult a qualified tax professional for guidance.
Wicked Good Cards are delivered to nonprofit partners across Maine, including hospitals, hospice homes, shelters, and community organizations. Once the cards arrive, they are placed in shared spaces where people in those communities can choose a card to give to someone who matters to them.
Families, caregivers, volunteers, and staff can also use the cards to support patients, residents, and their loved ones — offering encouragement, comfort, celebration, or connection when it’s needed.
Because many partner organizations support vulnerable or immunocompromised individuals, our cards are designed with safety and dignity in mind. We avoid loose glitter or embellishments and use clean, layered designs made from high-quality materials appropriate for sensitive care settings.
We partner with Maine nonprofits that serve people in care communities, including hospitals, hospice homes, shelters, and community organizations. Once delivered, cards are placed in shared spaces where people can easily see them, choose one, and use it in the way that’s most meaningful to them.
We stay in regular contact with each partner to understand how many cards they need, which categories are most helpful, and how the cards are being used. This helps us replenish thoughtfully and ensure cards are always available where connection matters.
Yes! You can select a specific card design from our collection, and we’ll craft and deliver that card on your behalf to one of our nonprofit partners.
After your donation is complete, you’ll receive a confirmation email with your tax receipt and a link to the Giving Gallery post featuring the card you sponsored.
Once your handcrafted card is delivered to one of our nonprofit partners, we’ll send you an email with a link to its page in our online Giving Gallery. There, you’ll see the exact card you funded, along with the partner organization that received it.
This confirmation lets you know your kindness reached its destination and made a meaningful impact.
To protect privacy and dignity, we do not share the identities of individual recipients. When you donate a card, it’s delivered to the nonprofit partner you selected, where it’s placed within the community for someone to choose or receive at a meaningful moment.
You’ll get a link to your card in our online Giving Gallery once it’s delivered, so you’ll always know which partner organization you supported and how your kindness moved through the world — without ever revealing anyone’s personal information.
No. Wicked Good Cards does not sell or resell handmade cards. Our cards are created solely to support our nonprofit mission. When you donate, we handcraft cards to be delivered to people-first care organizations in Maine.
What your gift supports: Your contribution helps cover high-quality cardstock, envelopes, and specialty no-shed glitter paper; paper-crafting glue and replacement tools; photography and packaging; postage, fuel, and mileage to deliver cards; website hosting and platform fees; studio organization supplies; community outreach; and the operational costs that keep our nonprofit running.
At this time, we’re not accepting handmade card donations from the public.
We’re a small organization and don’t yet have the infrastructure to process, review, and distribute donated cards at scale. To ensure consistency, quality, and safety (especially for cards delivered to hospitals and care facilities) we currently handcraft all cards in our Southern Maine Studio.
We know many people are eager to help, and we’re so grateful. If you’d like to support our mission, you can:
• Donate a card from our collection • Donate funds directly • Spread the word by sharing our mission with friends, family, and your community
Every gesture helps us spread kindness across Maine.
At this time, we’re not accepting supply donations from the public. To maintain consistency, quality, and safety for cards delivered to hospitals and care facilities, we work with a curated set of materials. This helps ensure every card meets partner standards.
If you’d like to support our mission, you can:
• Donate a card from our collection
• Donate funds directly

Every gesture helps support the mission.
Absolutely. General, or financial, donations help pay for materials, packaging, and delivery costs so we can keep crafting connection across Maine. These contributions support our overall mission and allow us to reach more care facilities and community partners.
Visit our Donate Funds page to make a donation.
Timing depends on whether the sponsored card is already in stock or needs to be crafted. If it’s ready, it’s included in our next monthly delivery. If it needs to be created, it joins the following month’s cycle. Because every card is handmade, there’s a balance between efficiency and care; we take the time needed to ensure each one meets our quality standards before it’s delivered.
Our goal is to deliver cards about once a month, though timing can vary depending on partner needs and card volume. Each delivery includes at least 20 handmade cards to ensure it’s meaningful and efficient. As we grow and form new partnerships across Maine, deliveries may shift between monthly and quarterly to align with demand and capacity.
For now, Wicked Good Cards is dedicated to serving communities in Southern Maine.
We believe lasting change starts close to home, and focusing locally allows us to build strong relationships with care organizations and ensure every card reaches someone who truly needs it.
Guided by the warmth and generosity we see in our community every day, we’re committed to uplifting, encouraging, and connecting people across Maine through handmade cards.
