How It All Began

Hi there, I’m Shannon Cyr, and I’ve always had a deep, possibly unhealthy, love of paper.

It started young with paper dolls, drawing, coloring, paper mâché, and creative writing—anything that let me create something from a blank page. Paper wasn’t just material, it was possibility.

In 2019, I took my first card-making class and was instantly hooked. It combined everything I love about paper—color, texture, possibility—and turned it into something shareable. Over the next few years, I created a dedicated home studio and honed my cardcrafting skills.

As I invited friends and family to craft with me, I noticed something interesting. Self-proclaimed "non-crafty" people had fun, surprising themselves and leaving our sessions with a sense of pride in what they made. Seeing them embrace their creativity and build confidence was deeply rewarding. It made me realize crafting offers more than just an enjoyable afternoon.

In winter 2024, I designed and crafted our family’s holiday cards and mailed them to friends and family. It was the first time I used one of my own designs, and I felt a little nervous sharing it. The responses were heartfelt and affirming. People shared how much they loved the cards. They displayed them proudly, planned to save them for future décor, and told me they felt special receiving something I took the time to create by hand. Their feedback confirmed what I had been experiencing: a handmade card is a tangible expression of care and love.

I wondered how I could share my cards with more people, specifically vulnerable
individuals who might need a little extra attention. I found an Arizona nonprofit

that accepted donations of handmade greeting cards and donated a set to support
their mission. The experience was immensely fulfilling. It felt like sending hope
into the world. I had no idea who would receive my cards or what their stories
might be, and they had no idea who I was. That was part of the magic. It was about
creating and giving something with no strings attached. I wanted to do it again.
And again.

With every card I crafted, I realized I wanted to root this act of love right here in Maine. The Pine Tree State has been my home and sanctuary for twenty years, and it’s where my husband, Michael, was born and raised. Maine is a place of rugged beauty, coastal charm, and genuine warmth. Kindness runs deep here, where neighbors still look out for one another. The cards belonged here, among the people and communities that make this place so magical.

I wanted to create and donate cards that felt truly special—something people would be proud to give, receive, and keep. Something wicked good.

That's when it clicked: Wicked Good Cards.

Here in Maine, when something’s really awesome, we say it’s wicked good. It’s a term you hear often in our home. Wicked Good inspired our name, guides our quality standards, and fuels our mission to craft connection through handmade cards.

In 2025, we made it official. Wicked Good Cards became a Maine-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity dedicated to creating and donating handmade cards that help Mainers share how they feel and stay connected to the people they love.

Today, I create each card from concept to cut in my home studio. Drawing inspiration from Maine’s rugged beauty, a wicked funny pun, or the moments that shape life’s changing seasons, every design begins with the intent to encourage, comfort, celebrate, or amuse. Eventually, it becomes a story told in paper.

I bring the vision, and Michael brings the precision. With his formal training in the arts, he refines layouts and rescues my more unfortunate missteps like the whale that somehow looked like a puppy. Together, we refine each design, ensuring each Wicked Good Card is worthy of donation and ready to carry messages of love, gratitude, encouragement, or celebration.

Visit our Donate Cards page to view the collection.

Looking ahead, I dream of donating thousands of cards each year, expanding partner relationships, and introducing Wicked Good Cardcrafting Kits™ so more people can experience the joy of making something by hand and sending it into the world.

At Wicked Good Cards, we believe in handcrafting for good. This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to see how far a little paper takes us.

Let’s get crafty!
